With an annual turnover in excess of £1 Billion, Anglo Beef Processors is the UK and Ireland’s leading meat processor.
Discovery Graduates have worked with ABP since 2003 to improve the flow of talent coming up through the business, (a common problem within food manufacturing) to ultimately become General Managers.
Recruitment
Traditional advertising campaigns were not attracting enough of the right quality of Graduates to ABP and the terrific career opportunities on offer. The role as a graduate trainee is very ‘hands on.’ Working in the meat processing industry often in the factory means you need the ability to multitask, prioritise and lead the team.
Limited resource within the personnel department to handle the seasonal approach to Graduate recruitment combined with the fact that ABP, although very well known in the industry, was not known as a Graduate recruiter made graduate recruitment all the more challenging.
The Solution
Discovery used their experience to target the advertising to attract more Graduates and raise the profile of ABP as a Graduate recruiter of choice using a range of Graduate specific internet sites and working with University careers services; in particular working with Agricultural Universities.
Discovery focused on the positioning of the scheme to enable graduates considering their options to get a really good feel for the industry and the roles using profiles of current successful Graduates to provide real “Day in the Life” examples of working at ABP.
Working quickly Discovery handled the initial response to inquiries and applications to secure the right people.
Discovery conducted the first round assessments to identify suitable Graduates who demonstrated the competencies for the role and the long-term vision of ABP to become General Managers interested and committed to a career with the company.
First round assessments and final assessment centres were run in UK and Ireland.
Discovery ran assessment centres as a time efficient and effective way to reinforce the opportunities on offer with ABP and assess the Graduates in a number of different company and individual assessment activities.
Discovery carried out all of the associated administration of assessments and site visits up to the point of the graduates starting their roles within the business.
Discovery set very realistic expectations for the Graduates and the managers to help with ongoing development. Discovery has kept in contact with all the Graduates to provide additional support
The Results
Over the last five years we have recruited a high number of exceptional graduates with an interview to offer ratio less than 3:1
